Different Types of Dental Bridges Used by Country Dental
Our dental bridge dentist uses several different types of bridges. The simplest explanation is that like a real bridge, which connects a gap from one point to another, a dental bridge accomplishes the same task for your teeth. It “bridges” the gap between one or more missing teeth.
Dental bridges help prevent the surrounding teeth from shifting positions. Shifting teeth provide new places for dental plaque to hide and cause tooth decay or disease.
Getting dental bridge work here at Country Dental is simple and easy. The goal of our dental bridge dentist is to improve a patient’s beautiful smile, eliminating the look of a missing tooth. Bridges provide patients with peace of mind and they are also easy on the pocketbook, costing much less than most dental procedures for tooth replacement.
Basics of Dental Bridges
Unlike dentures, dental bridges are not removable devices.
Bridges can be cemented onto the natural tooth or onto dental implants if the need arises. The teeth that anchor the bridge and provide primary protection are called “abutments”. The “pontic”, or replacement tooth, is attached to a crown on each abutment.
Our dental bridge dentist at Country Dental uses three main types of bridges:
Traditional Dental Bridge
Made of porcelain or porcelain fused to metal, traditional bridges are the most common type of bridges available.
Cantilever Dental Bridge
This bridge is used when abutment teeth are only located on one side of the missing tooth. Naturally, it only supports the replacement tooth from one side.
Maryland Bonded Dental Bridge
This type of bridge uses a false tooth fused with metal bands that bonds to the abutment tooth with resin. Maryland bonded bridges are usually used on the front of the mouth.
Replacement teeth can be expensive or relatively inexpensive depending on the material you make it out of. The same is true for bridges. Discuss with your dental bridge dentist at Country Dental which type, make, and function of the dental bridge you specifically need.
Placing the Dental Bridge
Be sure to take the time necessary for at least two visits to Country Dental to complete your bridge work.
On the first visit, your dentist will prepare for the dental bridge procedure with a few simple steps. First, your dentist may file down the abutment teeth so the dental crown will fit properly. Next, the assistant will take a scan of the tooth digitally. This scan will be used to create your dental bridge digitally.
No need for a temporary bridge. We will see you back here in 1-2 hours!
Returning for the second appointment that day can be even easier here at Country Dental. Your dentist will place the permanent dental bridge. Do not be discouraged at first as it usually takes a little adjusting to get the dental bridge perfected.
Dental Bridges Are Long Lasting
A dental bridge can last for quite a long time but all that is dependent on proper oral care. The teeth that are bridged together must be kept healthy to keep the dental bridge in place properly.
Remember to book regular dental visits here at Country Dental. If missing teeth are a problem for you, talk to one of our dentists.
