Comprehensive Dental Examination Services

Comprehensive Care for Your Smile

At Country Dental, we prioritize your oral health with our thorough dental exams. Our goal is to catch potential issues early and provide you with the highest standard of care, ensuring your smile remains healthy and bright. Before proceeding with any dental treatment for new patients, our dentists conduct a comprehensive oral exam. This essential check-up is recommended whenever you visit a new dentist or every three to five years. Schedule an appointment with our Fergus dentists to evaluate any changes in your oral health or dental status since your last examination.

Dental Checkup vs. Comprehensive Dental Exam

At Country Dental, we provide two key services to help maintain your oral health: dental checkups and comprehensive dental exams. Here’s how they differ:

Dental Checkup (6-9 months):
Also known as recall exam. During a typical dental checkup, your dentist will quickly examine your teeth and gums for signs of tooth decay, cavities, tartar buildup, and any changes in your dental health. This process is generally quick, and takes place during a regular cleaning visit.

Comprehensive Dental Exam (3-5 Years):
In contrast, a comprehensive dental exam is a more thorough evaluation that can take an hour or more. During this exam, your dentist will explore every aspect of your oral health in detail. At this visit, expect to have x-rays taken and a full scan of your teeth done. At Country Dental the doctor will thoroughly examine and read the x-rays and give an explanation and goals on how to achieve the perfect healthy smile you desire.

Both services are essential for ensuring your oral health is monitored and maintained effectively.

Included in the Dental Examination

Here’s a breakdown of the key areas that our dentists at Country Dental will assess to ensure your oral health is in top shape:

  • Full Periodontal Exam:
We evaluate your gums and the jawbones supporting your teeth. This helps us detect any signs of gum disease or bone loss early on.
  • Complete Teeth Examination:
Each tooth is thoroughly examined for cavities, decay, and other issues. We want to ensure every part of your smile is healthy.
  • Head, Mouth, and Throat Examination:
We check these areas for any signs of oral cancer or other health concerns. This comprehensive assessment is vital for your overall well-being.
  • Complete Occlusal Exam:
This involves analyzing your bite to identify any misalignments or issues that could affect your dental health.
  • Full TMJ Exam:
We assess the temporomandibular joints (TMJ) to identify any problems with jaw movement, pain, or clicking sounds.
  • Dental X-rays or Other Scans:
We may take X-rays or use other imaging techniques to get a detailed view of your teeth and jaw structure, which helps in diagnosing any hidden issues.
  • Complete Salivary Exam:
We evaluate your saliva production and quality, as it plays a crucial role in oral health and digestion.
  • Aesthetic Exam:
Finally, we assess the overall appearance of your teeth and jaw in relation to your facial structure, ensuring that your smile looks great and is aligned properly

When to Schedule a Comprehensive Dental Exam?

A comprehensive dental examination is essential in several situations, including:

  • If you are considering orthodontic braces or aesthetic changes.
  • If you’re thinking about dental implants to replace lost teeth.
  • If you want to replace older dental work.
  • If you are getting new or replacement dentures.
  • If you’ve been recently diagnosed with a medical condition or disease.

Sometimes, your dentist may suggest additional consultations with specialists during or after your exam. This is a normal step to ensure a complete understanding of your oral health and does not necessarily indicate a serious issue.

After your comprehensive dental exam, your dentist will have a thorough understanding of your oral health, allowing you to make informed decisions together.

Many dental problems are predictable and preventable if caught early.

If it has been 3 years or more since your last comprehensive exam, we encourage you to book an appointment.

We encourage you to explore resources about dental health, including the Canadian Dental Association website, which provides valuable information. Remember, taking charge of your oral health is a positive step toward overall well-being.
